Music for children, review – new album by Maria Alley

Nature's Lullaby - Too Noisy to Nap

Nature's Lullaby - Too Noisy to Nap

Maria Alley has a rocking new album that we just love at our house. It’s called “Nature’s Lullaby – Too Noisy to Nap” – and that’s right.  You won’t go to sleep while you’re listening to this one.  And you won’t want to.  For one thing, you may be busy dancing – adults as well as kids!  The songs are in a variety of styles, all hip – from hip hop to jazz, blues to calypso, but unlike many variety albums, these flow together quite nicely.   Maria’s rich alto voice provides continuity as she shifts styles effortlessly.  Lots of humour, too.  Most songs were cowritten by Maria and J. L. Frost; a couple were penned by Frost and Terry Main who had a hand in the creative arrangements.  The album is nominated for an ECMA award in the Children’s category, so hopefully we’ll hear it on the airways.  You can listen to samples and buy Nature’s Lullaby on Maria’s website at DoReMeAndMaria.com.

Maria is also known for her preschool music curriculum, which you can also check out on her website.
